Foxy Ladies is a bingo-themed quick reaction skill game. It is a points-based tournament skill game for social media platforms.
Foxy Ladies is a quick reaction game where you must decide whether to reject the number that appears, or select it on your cards.

Speed is the name of the game, so the quicker you reject or select, the more more points you will win.

The player is given 2 bingo cards. Each card has 16 randomly chosen numbered squares. The object of the game is for the player to fill all the squares on each card within the time allowed. Speed is of the essence, as the player is initially given only 2 minutes to complete the game.

At the start of the game, more than 160 balls are launched into the game's agitator. One of the balls is randomly drawn from the agitator, and is displayed in the central window. The player must decide whether to REJECT or ACCEPT it:
  • if the ball's colour and number match any of the squares on the player's bingo cards, the player should touch the corresponding square to ACCEPT the ball
  • if the ball's colour and number don't match any of the squares on the player's bingo cards, the player should press the REJECT button
  • a time penalty is incurred for every incorrectly rejected ball - 10 seconds are deducted from the game time
  • when a ball is accepted, the selected square is filled by a black door sliding over it
  • when a ball is accepted or rejected, another ball is drawn from the agitator, until there are no more balls left

The game has 5 bonus pots: COLUMN, ROW, DIAGONAL, CORNERS and FULL HOUSE. The values of these pots diminish in direct proportion to the amount of remaining game time. When a bonus pot is triggered, its value is added to the player's score.

Points are scored when:
  • a ball is correctly REJECTed - 10 points are added to the score
  • a ball is accepted - the value of the ball is added to the score
  • a vertical COLUMN of squares on a bingo card are filled - the value of the COLUMN bonus pot is added to the score
  • a horizontal ROW of squares on a bingo card are filled - the value of the ROW bonus pot is added to the score
  • a DIAGONAL row of squares on a bingo card are filled - the value of the DIAGONAL bonus pot is added to the score
  • all four CORNERS on a bingo card are filled - the value of the CORNERS bonus pot is added to the score
  • all 16 squares on a bingo card are filled - the value of the FULL HOUSE bonus pot is added to the score

Amongst all the balls in the agitator, there are a few special bonus balls:
  • TIME bonus balls add 15 seconds to the game time
  • STAR bonus balls add to the bonus accumulator - when 5 star bonus balls have been collected, the game's bonus mode is activated

When the bonus mode is activated, all of the bonus pot values are multiplied by 5.

At the end of the game, if the player has successfully filled both bingo cards, a SPEED BONUS may be awarded. This is calculated by multiplying the number of seconds remaining on the game timer by 100.

During a game, if the player's score surpasses the current high score, the player is instantly notified. Excitement mounts as the game reaches its climax. As the various bonus pots begin to drop, multiple full screen animations are triggered, and the anticipation of entering the bonus mode reaches its highest point.

Development

The original SWP game has small cash prizes, whereas Martin's Flash game is a points-based tournament game for social media platforms.

Martin made several improvements to the original game design:
  • a SPEED BONUS was added - after completing the game, any remaining seconds are converted into bonus points, and added to the player's total score
  • the animation of the initial launching of the balls into the play area was improved
  • when points are awarded, the displayed values remain on screen, floating off and gradually fading away (when multiple scoring events occur, the combined visual effect superbly reinforces the player's achievement)

Foxy Ladies was the first published Flash game that Martin developed using his proprietary Quantum Dodo Game Engine.

Game development commenced in February 2011 and was completed in April 2011. Martin initially wrote the game in Flash AS2, but ported it to AS3 in April 2011.

Release

The game went live on IMS24's Ninjaro website in autumn 2011.
